A goal of wealth equality and the role of social entrepreneurship
Thomas S. Lyons ()
Chapter 7 in Rethinking Community Economic Development, 2025, pp 94-116 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Social entrepreneurs solve wicked social problems. Arguably one of the most wicked is wealth inequality because it underlies so many other challenging problems. In this chapter, the scope and scale of the wealth inequality challenge are explored. Explanations for its persistence are examined, as are the public's suggested solutions. However, none of these proffered solutions includes social entrepreneurship. A thorough exploration of the mindset, skillset, tools, and techniques of social entrepreneurship is provided, including its relationship to ‘conscious capitalism.’ This discussion comprises an examination of the role social entrepreneurship, as a manifestation of conscious capitalism, can play in addressing wealth inequality.
