Chapter 8 in How to Use Storytelling in Your Academic Writing, 2025, pp 99-108 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: In this chapter I explain the Discussion section’s purposes, describe typical discussion section flaws (rehashing results, meandering, overreaching and superficial interpretations), offer a playbook for how to approach and make the most of the discussion section, how to write an effective conclusion, and I provide some guidelines for how to structure the discussion effectively.
