Chapter 4 in Research Companion to Innovation in Construction, 2025, pp 74-92 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The construction industry in Chile is gradually embracing innovation to address challenges like low productivity, quality issues, contractual disputes, and integration problems. This chapter discusses innovation advancements in Chile over the last decade from two angles: institutional-level innovation promotion and company-level innovation management. Initially, significant initiatives to foster industry innovation, gathered from literature and web sources, are outlined. The latter section summarises research to create a system for assessing innovation management in construction companies, identifying critical corporate-level innovation drivers, and sharing insights from various companies’ experiences. The findings emphasise the need for further innovation development and underscore the critical role of institutional support, combined with the diligence and persistence of traditionally risk-averse construction companies. This necessitates more research and effective modifications. The results may catalyse efforts to enhance innovation efforts in nations facing similar issues, thereby enriching their innovation initiatives.
