Abstract: This contribution explores the implications of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) for corporate conduct in conflict-affected and high-risk areas (CAHRAs). It analyses the evolution of the Directive's scope to include specific obligations for companies operating in such contexts, in response to advocacy and gaps identified during recent conflicts. The chapter examines key concepts such as heightened human rights due diligence (hHRDD), the definition and identification of CAHRAs, and the integration of international humanitarian law (IHL) obligations. It also discusses responsible disengagement strategies and the implications of corporate operations on human rights and conflict dynamics. The Commentary situates CSDDD requirements within broader frameworks, including the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), OECD Guidelines, and UNDP practical guides, to clarify what is expected of companies when operating amid armed conflict, fragility, or systemic human rights abuses.
