Abstract:
Abstract: This chapter explores the persistent inequalities and ethical challenges in children's social care (CSC) research, particularly in relation to racialised minority communities. It critically examines how structural racism, mistrust, and historical exploitation shape participation in research and trials, often resulting in the exclusion of those most affected by interventions. Drawing on social work's commitment to social justice, the chapter interrogates dominant epistemologies, highlights barriers to engagement, and calls for reflexive, culturally humble research practices. It emphasises the importance of inclusive methodologies, advisory groups, and intentional recruitment strategies to avoid reinforcing inequities. Researchers, funders, and practitioners are urged to move beyond neutrality, acknowledge positionality, and actively adopt anti-racist approaches. Through this lens, the chapter challenges the profession to reimagine knowledge production in CSC and commit to research practices that are equitable, ethical, and responsive to diverse lived experiences.
