A chapter in Elgar Encyclopedia of International Trade, 2026, pp 1-3 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: The Elgar Encyclopedia of International Trade is a collection of 48 contributions by leading international scholars, covering the full range of theory, empirics, and policy in international trade. Each entry offers an accessible overview of a key topic. This encyclopedia is intended not only for specialists but also for students, policymakers, instructors of international trade courses at all levels, and general readers who seek to understand the economic and political dimensions of globalization. Each entry is expected to be a good starting point for researchers, and graduate students can go through various entries to identify research topics. Topics include classical trade models, including their modern incarnations and applications, new trade theories, trade policy along with its political-economy rationale, economic geography, foreign direct investment, migration, the impact of trade on the environment and labor markets, etc. We provide here the rationale for the inclusion of the topics covered.
