Chapter 1 in Teaching Critical Thinking in Political Science, 2025, pp 1-11 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Along with a brief discussion of the genesis of Teaching Critical Thinking in Political Science, this introductory chapter lays out the central concerns and approach of this edited book on teaching critical thinking (CT) in political science. We provide an overview of how critical thinking has traditionally been defined and understood, and then follow this with a discussion of literature in the scholarship of teaching and learning (specifically focused on Political Science), summarizing some of the pedagogies employed to engage CT. Finally, we situate this volume and its chapter contributions within this literature and offer brief synopses of the sections and chapters contained herein.
