Working at the intersection of Financial and Feminist Economics
Alicia Girón
Chapter 1 in The Elgar Companion to Women and Heterodox Economics, 2025, pp 22-38 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter details my, Dr Alicia Girón’s, trajectory as a prominent Latin American heterodox economist pioneering work at the intersection of Financial Economics and Feminist Economics. My primary areas of research revolve around four areas: the categories of concentration and centralization of capital; the fragility of the financial system and banking crises; the processes of external indebtedness, economic and financial crises, and financial deregulation; and heterodox financial economics and Feminist Economics. With more than 45 years of policy-relevant research as an academic, I have not only trained a new generation of economists but have become a leader through initiatives led by my skills in collaboration, relationship and group-building, and the exchange of ideas amongst academics on multiple continents. Countless accolades and recognitions, nationally and internationally, have been received for my contributions to heterodox economics.
