Abstract:
This chapter focuses on the two oldest Institutes within the National Institutes of Health (NIH): the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). The history of both the NCI and the NHLBI is presented along with a description of milestone legislative events. The history of public-sector appropriations to both the NCI and the NHLBI is also presented.
