A chapter in Elgar Encyclopedia of Transport and Society, 2025, pp 204-205 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Intelligent mobility is a broad term encompassing a variety of technologies and concepts in different contexts, and its meaning is evolving to be predominantly centred on the application of information and communication technologies (ICT) and artificial intelligence (AI) to augment vehicles and transport systems. The term can be used more narrowly to simply describe ICT-based car driver assistance features, but its meaning has become more systemic to encompass how autonomous vehicles and related technologies are incorporated into intelligent mobility ecosystems to augment transport systems for wider social and environmental benefit.
