A chapter in Elgar Encyclopedia of Transport and Society, 2025, pp 278-279 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Point-to-point transport services refer to interconnected and decentralised freight and passenger transportation systems and span all major transport modes. This transport sector has seen significant growth and modernisation, particularly with the advent of ride-sharing systems, low-cost carriers, and automation. However, they have brought a unique set of challenges, such as fostering integration across modes and establishing regulatory standards. The use of technology and policy instruments can help further increase efficiency, accessibility, and environmental sustainability in urban transport networks.
