Abstract:
Public transport integration refers to the way in which the different parts of a trip are connected to create a coordinated and unified overall trip or journey. This includes road, rail, air, sea and active modes of travel, most notably walking. Park and ride (P&R) is one particular example of interchange primarily involving bus, rail and ferry. The growth of digital services has enabled significant improvements to public transport integration. Whilst it is true that interchange provides a penalty to a traveller, this can be reduced by providing good interchanges and be compensated by the ability to access more destinations.
