Abstract:
Sustainable urban mobility plans (SUMPs) are strategic plans developed mainly in the European Union (EU) by local and regional governments to promote the use of more sustainable forms of mobility and foster the integration of different modes of transport. SUMPs have been developed in several European cities and regions, mainly in response to policies and programmes initiated by the European Commission. Addressing all modes of transport and focusing on both passenger and freight, SUMPs aim to enhance accessibility and promote sustainable and high-quality mobility. In most countries, SUMPs are neither mandatory nor legally binding plans.
