Transport technology and society
Glenn Lyons
A chapter in Elgar Encyclopedia of Transport and Society, 2025, pp 416-417 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The digital age has collided with and is merging with the motor age. We are bearing witness to a myriad of technological developments that are directly and indirectly affecting transport and shaping society. Such developments can influence whether and how we travel and the consequences of that travel in environmental terms. There is a need for planning to recognise and embrace responsible innovation that helps influence physical mobility, spatial proximity, and digital connectivity in the interests of realising societal goals including those relating to climate change.
