Airport infrastructure

Abstract:
Airports typically involve large capital investments in runways, terminals and facilities for access. Airports have often grown up with cities, and expanding them is difficult; though selecting sites for new airports is also often challenging. As a result, evaluation of new investments is an important task, though it is not always done well. It is therefore important to make the best use of existing facilities by using airport slot systems efficiently. Air traffic and the climate externalities that this generates are now leading to now calls for setting caps on airport traffic, though this might not be an effective or efficient solution.
