Abstract:
This entry presents trolleybuses and discusses the differences between trolleybuses and tramways, as well as electric buses. It provides a short history of trolleybuses, including selected cities where they operate and the reasons for constructing and closing down trolleybus networks. It explains the evolution of trolleybuses and the newest approaches cities are taking with this technology. The current state-of-the-art of trolleybus efficiency compared to battery-electric buses is discussed.
