Abstract:
Underground railways have a long history of over 150 years. Underground railway systems not only transport people at high volume, at high speed and with a high level of safety, but also offer cities multiple opportunities for effective energy use and environmental protection. Underground railway systems have significant, widespread and long-term effects on urban development, with their potential economic, environmental and health benefits triggering investment in, and development of, new underground railway systems. Underground railway transport contributes to city culture and tourism. The development of underground railway systems is affected by many urban and economic factors which are described.
