Waterbus

Shengda Zhu and Veronica Schulz

A chapter in Elgar Encyclopedia of Transport and Society, 2025, pp 450-451 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Waterbus services are flexible urban water transportation systems that differ from ferries by typically offering on-demand or “hop-on, hop-off” options. They are frequently used for both public transport and tourism, providing convenient travel in cities with extensive waterways. Waterbuses have significant potential for integrating innovative technologies, such as autonomous navigation and alternative fuels, highlighting their importance in urban transport and the opportunities they offer for sustainable development.
