Abstract:
European regional airports are crucial to a country's economic and social activities. They play a key role in regional development by offering essential connectivity for citizens and businesses, facilitating trade, tourism, and access to state services. Through these activities, regional airports make a significant contribution to the economy and society. This key regional airport role and impact is underpinned by regional development theories and economic models that help explain the specific wider positive impact of airports on economic development and regional growth. The unique contribution of regional airports can be further enhanced by cohesive national planning policies which promoted balanced economic development.
