A chapter in Elgar Encyclopedia of Transport and Society, 2025, pp 60-61 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the world's commercial aviation sector was both dramatic and unprecedented. The effect of border closures and the temporary prohibition of international and domestic passenger air travel by individual sovereign states variously impacted airport operators, airlines, passengers, aviation staff, and the wider economy in many different ways. The effect on these groups is examined, and the responses to the pandemic are discussed.
