Aerial tramways
Axel Kühn
A chapter in Elgar Encyclopedia of Transport and Society, 2025, pp 14-15 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
While aerial tramways historically had a focus on leisure travel (e.g., in mountain regions), their application in urban public transport networks is now increasingly discussed. Within multimodal networks they can add value by offering direct links which surface corridors cannot offer. Their role can be similar to that taken by ferry services in water- or riverfront cities. Ideally their position should be supported by full fare integration with other public transport.
