Gender
Lucy Budd
A chapter in Elgar Encyclopedia of Transport and Society, 2025, pp 168-169 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Gender is a complex and contested term. Gender roles, gendered expectations and gender norms have shaped the design, delivery and experiences of transport worldwide and have created and perpetuated gendered spaces in everyday life. This entry identifies ways in which gender has been defined and examines the role of gender for transport and society by exploring the implications of gender for transport users and transport workers.
