Abstract: This chapter explores the emergence of smartphone technologies using patent analysis with a focus on technology convergence. We study smartphones’ evolutionary pathways and reveal their technology convergence characteristics by using patent co-classification analysis and subject-action-object–prepositional phrase (SAO-PP) semantic analysis, which can help us to understand the emergence and development trends of smartphones.
