Chapter 18 in Handbook of Technological Forecasting and Roadmapping, 2026, pp 402-420 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: The pharmaceutical industry is vital to global healthcare, constantly pushing the boundaries of medical research and development (R&D) to offer new treatments and economic benefits. As we enter the era of Industry 4.0, technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and advanced computing are revolutionizing pharmaceutical manufacturing. This transformation, known as Pharmaceutical 4.0, is making the drug discovery process more efficient, encouraging personalized medicine and enhancing production capabilities. Collaboration between academia and industry is crucial in this innovative landscape. It is especially important for incubators and small-scale companies to keep up with technology by identifying strategies to grow. Technoparks such as Yıldız Teknik Technopark play a crucial role in helping countries achieve their objectives by supporting research and development in the pharmaceutical industry. For this reason, in this study, a technology roadmap was made for the Biowins Pharma company in the pharmaceutical and supplement sector within Yıldız Technopark. Tools like technology roadmapping and scenario planning are invaluable to navigating this complex environment. Thus, these tools help align technological advancements with business goals, allowing companies to stay flexible and responsive to changes. Hence, our study delves into the pharmaceutical industry's current technological landscape, using methods like Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and SWOT analysis to identify key drivers and challenges for Biowins Pharma. The roadmap we developed serves as a strategic guide, highlighting the industry's commitment to innovation, collaboration, and sustainability. It reflects a collective effort to push the boundaries of what's possible in healthcare, ensuring that new supplements continue to improve lives around the world.
