Graduate mobility and job mismatch: state-of-the-art and future challenges

Abstract: The aim of this chapter is to review the most recent and relevant contributions on the topic of high-skilled migration and its relationship with job mismatch. In fact, while the literature has widely discussed the issue of over-education and over-skilling and their negative consequences for both individuals and the economy, a comprehensive study exploring the state-of-the-art of the interplay between graduate mobility and matching is still missing. To shed light on this, we will first review and classify the different theories proposed to then pass on to the analysis of the empirical contributions operationalizing them. By offering a holistic perspective, encompassing both the theoretical framework and empirical insights, this chapter could serve as a valuable resource for scholars, policymakers and researchers navigating the nuanced terrain of labor mobility and its implications for job matching dynamics.
