Abstract: The entry explores organisational mnemonic devices, material artefacts that evoke an organisation's past by eliciting sensory and embodied responses. These responses, in turn, promote shared interpretations of the organisation's past among stakeholders. The selection and retention of these devices may be intentional or unintentional, and their interpretations may serve organisational goals or diverge from managerial intentions. Building on various case studies, the entry demonstrates how mnemonic devices contribute to a shared understanding of the past within organisations, highlighting their role in shaping strategic goals, forming mnemonic communities and controlling stakeholders’ identities and views of the organisation.
