Abstract: The book Pandemonium was written at a time when postmodernism was an influential approach to knowledge. The text was meant to be an escape from the normal conventions of textual presentation which pass for common sense within Western social science. It was part vignette and contains elements of autobiography, it focuses upon the history of the diabolical present and is essentially about the Godforsaken and the twisted. It was also in part about the ‘peasantry’, the group of perhaps three billion people upon the planet today, who are largely invisible to the scholarly eye. It is this social group which allows a ‘retro-organization theory’ to poke itself up out of the mud and dirt.
