Abstract: Path dependence is a key concept in historical organisation studies (HOS), yet much of the research centers on the Global North, overlooking the Global South. This entry addresses that gap by incorporating postcolonial and decolonial perspectives to better understand how historical legacies shape organisational trajectories in Latin America, Africa and South Asia. We emphasise the role of colonial histories, institutional hybridity and informal governance in shaping persistent organisational patterns. Arguing for contextual, epistemically plural approaches, we propose a research agenda that reconsiders dominant constructs and highlights the geopolitical dynamics of knowledge production, contributing to more inclusive and critical organisational scholarship.
