Abstract: Politics in an organisational sense refers to both external and internal dynamics. From the external side, the nexus of business and politics offers a long and fruitful research vein for organisational studies, helping to understand the interaction of organisations with formal political institutions. Internally, organisation studies also examine processes accompanying the exercise of power within an organisation and how these attributes affect organisational change. This entry asserts that these two dimensions should not be studied in isolation – and that adding a historical lens to organisation studies can illuminate crucial interrelations between the two facets.
