Abstract: During the late 1970s, the social sciences, including organisation and management studies, started to be influenced by a set of mid-twentieth-century French intellectual perspectives in philosophy and other humanities which called for skepticism towards the constitution of modern knowledge and the historical, linguistic institutional, social and political aspects of such constitution. The terms ‘postmodern’ and ‘postmodernism’ have been used to identify many of these perspectives, which share some features, including a concern for language and representation and a reconsideration of subjectivity and power.
