Abstract: In response to the failure of a substantial flow of business history research to make any impact on either business school curricula or the worlds of practice, this entry situates a ‘practical turn’ in the discipline's orientation. As business history has much to offer practitioners in areas such as strategic decision-making or embedding values into an organisation, the worlds of practice could benefit enormously through closer interaction with the discipline. In the process, this would also enhance the status of business history, overcoming the scepticism of management and organisational scholars who have mostly dismissed the discipline as mere storytelling.
