Abstract: The Routledge Companion to Management and Organizational History was edited by Patricia Genoe McLaren, Albert J. Mills and Terrance G. Weatherbee and published by Routledge in 2015. The companion contains six parts and 29 chapters, which, collectively, comment on precursors to the historic turn, the historic turn itself and the future of the field of historical organisation studies. In the year the companion was published, the historic turn, which had begun in the mid-1990s (Zald 1993; Kieser 1994), was gaining momentum. As with most nascent fields, a variety of debates ensued concerning the field's prospects, what subjects it should feature and what should be its philosophical orientation. What unites the articles in the companion is that they are decidedly critical. Each contributes to critical organisational history (Durepos, Shaffner and Taylor 2021), which is one variety of historical organisation studies.
