Chapter 137 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Historical Organisation Studies, 2026, pp 489-491 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Scrapbooks are a form of auto-archived media compilation offering a window into material culture which has tended to be explored more fully by social and cultural historians than by historians of management and organisation. We offer an overview of the topic and consider the potential of this under-utilised category of source for historians interested in exploring the professional lives of organisational actors. We conclude with two examples of historical studies which have made use of scrapbooks as a source material.
