Chapter 140 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Historical Organisation Studies, 2026, pp 500-503 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This entry defines what historians mean by primary and secondary sources, explains how these sources should be analysed and provides examples of how they can be used in management and organisation studies. Special attention is given to the difference between those sources and what in management and organisation studies is defined as ‘data’. The entry shows the advantages and opportunities of using primary and secondary sources analysed through the methods accepted in history.
