Abstract: ‘Two-Eyed Seeing’ is a term that was coined to describe the development and application of a collaborative co-learning approach to teaching within an undergraduate level integrative science program in the early 2000s. Two-Eyed Seeing is described as a guiding principle for situations in which Indigenous peoples and knowledges are brought into classrooms where Western knowledges are dominant. It has been adopted as a guiding principle to design the governance of collaborative research projects. Problematically, Two-Eyed Seeing has been used without sufficient methodological clarity. It sometimes describes participatory action, or mixed-methods research approaches, that attempt to integrate Indigenous teachings at discrete phases of research.
