Abstract: In most management textbooks, history is confined to a single, often brief, chapter that summarizes the evolution of management thought. The history therein tends to be a simple narration of the linear progression and advancement of management thought and practice. It is usually a much-simplified version of how management developed and is included solely as prologue to what is believed to be the more important aspects of management contained in the rest of the text. While this structuring and presentation appears to be a logical way to introduce students to contemporary management, it is unreservedly teleological and actually serves to undermine the true value and relevance of the historical awareness students need for a full understanding of management.
