Abstract: Historical organisation studies denotes organisational research that draws substantially on historical data, approaches and knowledge to situate organising and organisations in their sociohistorical contexts; attentive to the disciplinary requirements of both history and organisation studies. Historical organisation studies thereby aims to offer a methodology for social scientific historical research in business, management and organisation studies, in which both history and organisation studies are equal partners; aspiring to achieve appropriate standards in both disciplines. At the heart of historical organisation studies is thus the concept of dual integrity, which combines historical veracity with conceptual rigour to produce historically informed theoretical narratives.
