Abstract: History can be understood both as a scholarly discipline and as a lived dimension of human experience. As a discipline, it reconstructs and engages with the past through diverse methodological traditions. At the same time, history constitutes individual and collective lifeworlds by shaping how people interpret and act in the present. This duality – as empirical inquiry and as meaning-making practice – underscores history's complexity, its ontological and epistemological debates and its significance for understanding uses of the past by societies and organisations.
