Abstract: This chapter explores the critical role of innovation in the sporting goods industry, examining traditional and agile innovation whilst emphasizing a shift towards more collaborative, customer-integrated methods such as open innovation. The sporting goods industry has witnessed robust growth, driven by increased global interest in sport and fitness. Innovation is essential if companies are to adapt to changing market demands, differentiate themselves from competitors and ensure their long-term success. Key challenges facing the industry include rising consumer expectations, regulatory hurdles and demands for greater sustainability. The chapter discusses traditional and agile innovation processes, highlighting a shift towards more dynamic, customer-centric approaches. It also considers the role of different stakeholders, from athletes and manufacturers to public bodies and regulators, in shaping innovation.
