Chapter 14 in Sport Management in Europe, 2025, pp 211-226 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter presents the issues and objectives of each of the actors involved in planning sports infrastructure in countries such as Switzerland. What facilities are needed to enable/promote school, leisure and health sport? What is the purpose of sports facilities for professional sport clubs? What political and economic objectives do public actors hope to achieve by building sports facilities? Written with current and future public managers in mind, the chapter provides, for the first time, a detailed description of each stage in a sports facility development project. It concludes by presenting insights from a public sector manager responsible for implementing a region's sport policy and a selection of references for further reading.
