Current issues and challenges
Christoffer Klenk
A chapter in Sport Management in Europe, 2025, pp 247-248 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Sport is a dynamic and rapidly evolving activity influenced by political, economic, social, technological and environmental trends. Globalization, stronger polarization and the demands of the social media landscape mean that sport organizations must constantly question and reposition themselves, proposing bespoke sporting narratives. Part IV of this Handbook explores the impact of global transformations on sport and vice versa. Each chapter provides an in-depth analysis of current issues affecting national and international sporting development, including gender equality, digitalization, sustainability, Esports and inclusion. As sport continues to evolve, future sport managers will require a diverse set of current and future competencies to succeed in the public, private and non-profit sectors. To this end, each chapter concludes with practical insights to help sports managers navigate the complexities of sports’ organization development.
