Conclusion: the great gamble
Ryan M. Katz-Rosene
Chapter Chapter 7 in The Growth–Environment Debate, 2025, pp 144-164 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
In this concluding chapter, I tease out five summative key points about the growth–environment relationship and discuss implications for contemporary capitalism and global sustainable development. I also surmise how the debate might evolve within the public and political sphere over the next half century. This debate is occurring at a crucial moment in time as the world delves further into ecological crisis, and as protecting humanity from the impacts of overwhelming ecological damage becomes an ever-higher priority for those in positions of power and the people they govern. I begin the chapter with a fictional parable.
