Chapter 2 in Islamic Economics and Human Well-being, 2024, pp 32-65 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: The Qur’an treats justice as a supreme value in all relationships. Everyone is equal before the law. It is obligatory for the Islamic state to establish justice. The antonym of justice is socioeconomic disorder. No civilised living is possible under socioeconomic disorder. The Qur’an deals with five dimensions of justice: equality; reciprocity; accountability; fairness and empowerment of the weak. The last section of the chapter deals with the relationship of justice with happiness.
