Abstract:
Over the past few decades, gender issues have attracted growing attention in management studies, covering several research topics such as gender diversity on boards, gender pay gaps, work–life balance, and gender-related leadership styles. Beyond the rightful emphasis on ensuring equal rights and opportunities in corporate settings, the literature delves into questioning gender diversity's unique contribution to financial and non-financial performance. In this chapter, by adopting an institutional perspective, we propose a literature review that discerns the central themes of extant research on gender issues in business. A panel of 141 papers spanning 43 years is analyzed to propose a map of literature and potential research avenues.
