Abstract: This chapter introduces this book, Research Companion to the Construction Industry in Developing Countries. It presents the aim of the book, which is to provide a guide for researchers seeking to add to the body of knowledge on construction industries in developing countries. The objectives include reviewing literature on the main topics comprising the body of knowledge, exploring the concepts of the subject, providing a research agenda for the subject, and outlining the future of the subject of construction in developing countries. The rationale for the book and the process taken to produce it are outlined. After discussing the definitions of the construction industry, those of a developing country are also considered. Synopses of the chapters of the book are then presented. It is concluded that the book meets the purpose of the editor in putting it together. It is an authoritative reference text on the field of the Construction Industry in Developing Countries.
