Abstract: The chapter presents the main requirements on the procedural rights of the public in EU water law. First, it presents an overview of the Aarhus Convention and its status in the EU. The main obligations are related to access to information, public participation in environmental decision-making, and access to justice. Then the chapter shows how they are implemented in EU water law. The analysis is followed by conclusions on public involvement in EU water law. The chapter draws heavily on the personal experience of the author, who has been actively involved in the development of the Convention and its implementation for 30 years.
