Abstract: The fight against the manipulation of sport competitions has long been in the agenda of key policy makers within and beyond the European Union. As stated in the EU Work Plan for Sport, protecting the integrity and values of sport is one of its main priorities, with the implementation of the Macolin Convention being the main tool through which this can be achieved. The Macolin Convention, or more formally known as the Council of Europe Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions, is a multilateral treaty aimed at combating corruption and manipulation in sports, which was adopted by the Council of Europe in 2014. This chapter offers further insight on this vital tool in the fight against the manipulation of sport competitions, by providing a detailed overview of what preceded the Macolin Convention, how it was developed, what it entails and the challenges that were and are still faced in its implementation.
