A chapter in Elgar Encyclopedia of International Sanctions, 2025, pp 1-4 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
International sanctions constitute an object of study for scholars of law, political science and international relations, among others. However, these disciplines have established scarce interconnection and lack a common vocabulary for their analyses. In view of the growing importance of sanctions as a foreign policy tool, which consequently makes the need for a better understanding of their nature, operation and effects more urgent and acute, this encyclopedia attempts to address the needs of social sciences scholars writ large and encourage an understanding of the sanctions world from multiple disciplinary perspectives.
