Russian Federation (sanctions episode)

Iikka Korhonen

Chapter 41 in Elgar Encyclopedia of International Sanctions, 2025, pp 142-145 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Beginning in 2014, and especially following Russia's illegal and brutal full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the European Union (EU), the United States, other G7 countries, and their allies (e.g. Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand) introduced a wide array of sanctions against Russia, Russian entities, and Russian nationals. This entry reviews the types of sanctions levied against Russia at various points in time and discusses their effects in Russia.
