Chapter 45 in Elgar Encyclopedia of International Sanctions, 2025, pp 156-158 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
In recent years, the sanctions against Venezuela have become the most significant episode of international sanctions in Latin America. Western countries and Latin American states have resorted to international sanctions to address the autocratization process under the government of Nicolás Maduro. This entry presents the case of Venezuela, examining the packages of sanctions that have been imposed on the country since 2014, to finally evaluate their impact on the Venezuelan economy and raise discussions about their effectiveness.
